Youths Flock to Cash Free eBay Style Auction site

(PRWEB) August 25, 2005

Nearly half a million under 18s have signed up with SwapitShop the cash free eBay style auction site for under eighteens.

Trading everything from iPods to wristbands, SwapitShop is revolutionizing school holidays by relieving the boredom and financial pressure of the summer break and giving young people real economic power as they take part in the auction craze that has proved so popular with adults.

Users have to be over 18 to use eBay and other online auctions. SwapitShop has changed all this enabling youths to take part in the auction phenomenon in an environment specifically designed for them.

Young people aged from 6 to 18 sign up for free to get their own SwapitShop account and can then buy and sell everything from Playstation games to DVDs, sports kit and fashion items. Over 40,000 items are currently traded every month across ten trading zones: Book, Cards, Collectables, Gadgets, Games, Music, Movies, Sports, Style and Toys, plus special one off Auction Frenzies dedicated to specific brands and products. On the site now are Auction Frenzies for Sega games, Dungeons, PC World games and Top of the Pops magazine.

SwapitShop is safe, secure and completely free to use. Youths use their own currency called Swapits instead of cash so that no money changes hands. All items are vetted before being listed and all sold items are sent to SwapitShop to forward onto the buyer. There is no contact between users, no chatrooms, forums or message boards.

What’s more SwapitShop unlocks one of Britain’s biggest hidden resources - the fabulous fortune tied up in unused games, music and toys. With an estimated £5.9 Billion tied up in things young people no longer use!

Andrew, age 12, and an avid trader said, “It’s wicked, my dad uses eBay and I now use SwapitShop. This week I have traded two PC games and I am saving up my Swapits to get an iPod.”

Jonathan Attwood, the founder of SwapitShop said: “The site is constantly crammed with goodies such as toys, games, books, CDs and DVDs - all up for grabs without spending a penny. As well as being loads of fun, it’s also a great chance for young people to learn the value of items and basic economic principles. It’s also a great place to spot the entrepreneurs of the future!”
